Death Toll From Pakistan Heatwave Crosses 400; Karachi Hit the Worst

Heatwave in Pakistan has killed more than 400 people with at least 250 more deaths in Karachi.

Karachi Medical Corporation (KMC) spokesperson Salma Kausar said that at least 70 people lost their lives at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and KMC hospitals in the past three days.


Earlier reports said that 30 people had died in ASH on June 20 and 21. The provincial government of sindh has imposed a state of emergency at all hospital and canceled leave for doctors. The government also increased stocks of medical supplies at hospitals.

June 20 was the hottest day of this year's summer in Karachi with 45 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature of 48 degree Celsius was recorded in three districts of Sindh - acobabad, Larkana and Sukkur on June 20 and slid to 41 degree Celsius on June 21.
