More than 435million pound of mobility' components are going to junkies, alcoholics, asthmatics and people with unspecified back pain which is actually meant for disabled people. Ministers say official figures reveal that people claim the mobility benefits of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) demonstrates the need for urgent reform. More than half the people who got the claim simple had to fill up a form and have never been asked to attach any evidence to support their claim.
The DLA was designed to help those who have specific mobility or care needs and cannot walk, wash or dress themselves. The benefit that is paid depends upon the severity of walking difficulties with 49.85 pounds being paid for people with severe difficulties.
Ministers have suggested reforms like face-to-face assessments to ensure that the benefit goes to the needy people. Government plans to replace the DLA with a new Personal Independence Payment.
