Dr Kent Brantly Shares His Experience On Fighting The Deadly Ebola Virus

by Lakshmi Darshini on July 28, 2015 at 1:44 PM

It has been a year since Dr Kent Brantly's battle with the Ebola virus had made headlines. And recently he spoke about his experience with the deadly virus at First Baptist North Spartanburg.

The doctor contracted the virus while he was treating patients in Liberia with the Samaritans Purse Organization in 2014. Now, free from of the Ebola Virus, he said his journey was what God had planned.

"We went to Liberia because we felt God had a call in our lives to serve people in need and we still feel like that is our calling," said Brantly. He said over the past year his family has continued to follow the path they lead "to raise awareness about the ongoing Ebola virus in Liberia," before he got sick. Although Ebola isn't making headlines anymore, it's still a serious issue, said Dr Brantly.

"There are still 20 to 30 cases of Ebola being diagnosed every week in Guinea and Sierra Leone." He said he and his wife Amber are traveling the country to share their message. "We live in a global community, our neighbors are not only the people that live next to us but our lives are very much connected to the lives of people on the other side of the world," said Brantly.

There are still people fighting for their lives against Ebola and people across United States should not forget that, said Dr Brantly and his wife who spoke at their book signing for the release of their book, Called for Life'.

"Talk about it, put it into their conversations that the Ebola outbreak is still ongoing and still dozens of people are dying every week of Ebola Virus," said Amber Brantly.

Kent and Amber Brantly said they will be grateful forever to the many people both in the States and abroad that prayed for Dr. Brantly's recovery and for those still fighting today.
