Drinking Green Tea and Coffee Linked With Reduced Stroke Risk
A large scale study conducted by a team of Japanese researchers has found that drinking green tea and coffee every day can cut down the risk of strokes by as much as 20 percent.
Researchers led by Dr Yoshihiro Kokubo analyzed the beverage habits of more than 83,000 people between 45 and 74 years of age for over a period of 13 years.
The researchers found that those who drank at least one cup of coffee or four cups of green tea every day had a 20 percent lower risk of suffering from strokes compared to those who rarely drank it while the risk of haemorrhagic (burst blood vessel) stroke was reduced by 32 percent.
"The regular action of drinking tea, coffee, largely benefits cardiovascular health because it partly keeps blood clots from forming", Dr Kokubo said. The study has been published in the journal Stroke.
