Drinking More Than One Glass of Fruit Juice Per Day Linked to Obesity

Researchers have warned that drinking more than one glass of fruit juice in a day can prove to be harmful to your health and lead to increased rates of obesity.

Researchers at British government's 'National Diet and Nutrition Survey' analyzed figures from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey and found that teenagers are drinking over 40 percent more sugar levels than the recommended limit with fruit juice and fizzy drinks the biggest source of added sugars.

More than 4,000 children and adults took part in the survey with the researchers finding that the sugar consumption levels among all the age groups was higher than the recommended limit of 11 percent of daily calorie intake.

"The best drinks for school-aged children are water and low-fat milk. Fruit juice is also a good choice as it can be included as one of your five portions of fruit and vegetables per day. However it should only be drunk once a day and with a meal because it can be high in sugar and can cause tooth decay", Dr Alison Tedstone, who is with the NHS, said.
