Chicago's Etymotic Research has been awarded with the Best of Innovations in Health and Wellness at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011 in Las Vegas for the development of Electronic Blast PLG Earplugs.

Etymotic Research has been associated with the invention of ear plugs for musicians and sound engineers but their latest product, which helps soldiers reduce the risk of hearing loss tinnitus due to explosions has proved to be very useful for American troops worldwide.

While there are other hearing protection gadgets available, most soldiers opt not to wear them since they interfere with the surrounding noise which could prove to be fatal.

However the Electronic Blast PLG Earplugs reduce the noise generated by explosions or machine gunfire which produce loud noise but at the same time allow natural hearing.
