Experimental Anti-Viral Drug Helps Treat Italian Doctor With Ebola
A 50-year old Italian doctor has recovered from Ebola after having undergone an experimental treatment for Ebola. The doctor had been working for Italian Charity Emergency in Sierra Leone, West Africa, when he contracted the deadly disease.
The Sicilian resident has been in isolation at Rome's Spallanzani institute since he was evacuated from Sierra Leone in mid-November. 10-days ago, the doctors treating him reported that he could breathe, walk and eat unassisted. There has been progress in his health condition with the treatment and a press conference has been called on Friday, during which it is expected to be confirmed that he is moving into a convalescence stage of his recovery and will be able to leave his isolated room at the clinic that specializes in infectious diseases.
Emergency President Cecilia Strada and Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin are expected to attend the press conference on Friday.
