Facelift Surgery Leaves Woman With Bones Growing In Her Eyes

A failed facelift operation with the use of stem cell injections has caused bone growth in the eyes of a 60-year-old woman.

This woman from California who spent $20,000 for the procedure began to suffer pain in her eye and experienced difficulty opening her right eye. Also she heard a funny clicking sound in her eye.

A six hour surgery revealed that bone had grown around the eyelid and surrounding areas.

Doctors are of the opinion that reaction of stem cells with a common dermal filler containing calcium may have caused the bone growth. If the dermal filler contained calcium hydroxylapatite, then it's possible that the mineral converted stems cells into bone.

Though her surgeon, Allan Wu, was able to remove the bone from her eye, bone growth can happen in the future and there is no assurance that doctors can give for the future.
