'Fat' Barbie Dolls may Encourage Obesity

by Thilaka Ravi on December 25, 2013 at 6:18 PM

Plus-size Barbie dolls raise serious questions regarding their motives to make girls more accepting of their physique and doubts if the 'fat' dolls can really promote healthy diet and exercise.

A Plus Size Modeling group on Facebook recently shared a picture of a "Fat Barbie" and a normal sized Barbie, while asking what the real purpose of the new dolls was, News.com.au reported.

According to a UK publication, the post was highly shared and liked on the social networking site, where many commented that the new dolls were an inaccurate representation of larger women.

While one reader said that the dolls promote poor health and eating habits, another said that the triple chin is too much because most overweight people only have a double chin no matter what size they are.

One commenter suggested that the manufacturers should produce realistically proportioned Barbie that promotes healthy diet and exercise.
