Fears Over Female Feticide Among Immigrant Communities in Britain

by Kathy Jones on January 12, 2013 at 8:00 PM

The health ministry in Britain has admitted that female feticide may be taking place in the country, especially among immigrant communities.

Health minister Earl Howe said that the ratio of newborns in certain communities being skewed towards boys would not have been possible "without intervention".

Howe went on to add that while the overall sex ratio in Britain is within normal limits, recent data indicates that selective abortions are taking place.

"While the overall United Kingdom birth ratio is within normal limits, analysis of birth data for the calendar years from 2007 to 2011 has found the gender ratios at birth vary by mothers' country of birth. Monitoring of this issue will continue", he said.
