Fish Oil, An Impetus to Tamoxifen Therapy in Breast Cancer Victims

Researchers have found that omega-3 fatty acids can be an impetus to tamoxifen therapy in victims of breast cancer.

A study conducted on rats showed that Omega-3 could actually enhance the vulnerability of tumors to medication.

Explaining the effect, researchers said, "If a tumour was being treated with tamoxifen, the addition of an omega-3 fatty acid diet seemed to make the tumor, at least at the molecular level, more benign and less aggressive and responsive to tamoxifen."

It was also observed that though omega-3 fatty acids exerted a positive influence at the genetic level, they also appeared to activate the genes that set off negative immune responses , which itself can bring forth cancer.
