Garbage Processing Plant Unhealthy
Councilor warns that toxic fumes from the garbage processing plant at Dadumajra poses a risk of cancer and other skin diseases
Warning that toxic fumes from the garbage processing plant at Dadumajra poses a risk of cancer and other skin diseases, MC councillor Chandermukhi Sharma has demanded that immediate action be taken in order to clean up the plant.
Sharma cited World Health Organization advisory that a long term exposure to dioxin and furan could increase the risk of cancer even if it is a low level exposure. The Congress councilor has submitted a memorandum to UT adviser Pradip Mehra demanding that immediate action is taken.
However vice-president of Jaiprakash Associates, Brig RS Sahota rejected claims of the plant being harmful to health, stating that its function was studied in detail by members of Central Pollution Control Board from New Delhi and the company was only asked to install a scrubber which will be done before the deadline of September passes.
