Researchers from Michigan State University suggest that getting a divorce at a younger age can have a negative impact on your health.

The researchers polled more than 1,200 participants over a period of 15 years and observed their health as well as their marital status.

The researchers found that those who got a divorce when aged between 35 and 41 years reported a number of health issues compared to those who divorced later on in their lives.

"It's clear to me that we need more social and family support for the younger divorced groups. This could include divorce counseling to help people handle the stress, or offering marital therapy or prevention programs to maintain marital satisfaction", lead researcher Hui Liu said. The study has been published in the journal Social Science & Medicine.
