Growing Demand in India for Hospital Management Professionals by 2020
A recent internal study conducted by the Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) observed the industry was able to place less than 10 percent though there is a very high workforce requirement.
"With the role of private hospitals expected to go up, we see a huge demand for healthcare managers. The private healthcare industry is likely to grow seven-fold from the present $40 billion to $280 billion in 2020. A big part of it would come from the corporates," said Biranchi N Jena, director, IIHMR.
The institute is offering postgraduate diploma programmes in health, hospital management and health information technology at its four campuses in the country.
Every year 60 health management professionals are trained and so far 300 of them have been equipped with managerial skills by the institute. Jena said, the passed out are well placed. "The average annual salary package offered last year was Rs 5 lakh and the highest was Rs 12 lakh," he said.
The present demand for health management professionals is 2000 in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh but it would increase to 10,000 by 2020.
IIHMR has recently tied up with Netherlands-based Maastricht University's Faculty of Health Management and Research (FHML) to provide global exposure and quality facilities to its students.
