Helicobacter pylori causes infection in the stomach, peptic ulcer but now proves to protect eosinophilic esophagitis, an allergic condition.

‘Eosinophilic esophagitis an allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus that involves eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. The symptoms are swallowing difficulty, food impaction, and heartburn.’

"This adds to the evidence that allergic disorders in general may be less common in people with H. pylori infection," said lead author Dr. Ulrike von Aarnim, of the University of Magdeburg, in Germany. The results are published in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
