HypnoBirthing Gaining Popularity

Interest in using hypnosis to overcome labor pains during childbirth has increased in recent times with celebrities, including Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian reportedly having used it during their childbirths, and now an expert in HypnoBirthing has explained how exactly is helps women forget their pains.

Cynthia Overgard, founder of HypnoBirthing of Connecticut, a prenatal education center in Westport, said that the main assumption of the technique is that fear and tension during delivery plays a very important part in labor pains. Overgard said that the release of oxytocin, an endorphin known as the feel-good, love hormone, ensures a safe and comfortable birth and it is only when a woman does not feel safe and relaxed that the problems occur.

She added that when there is fear and tension in a woman's body during delivery, the production of oxytocin stops and adrenaline levels rise, diverting the blood flow from the uterus to the arms and legs. HypnoBirthing helps a woman feel relaxed and secure, thereby helping her maintain a calm body and mind.
