Ice Creams may Not Play Any Role in Lifting Your Mood
Chocolates and ice creams are thought to be some of the best comfort foods that people turn to in whenever they are in a bad mood but a new study suggests that the mood of a person automatically improves with time regardless of what he eats.
The study was conducted by researchers at University of Minnesota who asked volunteers to pick out foods that they thought would help them improve their mood while they were also asked to select food that they liked but did not believe helped in improving their mood.
The participants were then shown a 20 minute video which was designed to feelings of sadness, anger and fear. Soon after watching the video, the mood of the participants worsened but improved three minutes later, regardless of what kind of food they ate or even if they did not eat anything.
"We were incredibility surprised by those results. Whether it's your comfort food, or it's a granola bar, or if you eat nothing at all, you will eventually feel better. Basically, comfort food can't speed up that healing process", lead researcher Heather Scherschel Wagner said.
