Increased Risk of Certain Gastric Cancers Associated With Heavy Drinking

Excessive drinking may increase the risk for a certain type of gastric cancer, but not with moderate intake of alcohol, results from a meta-analysis have shown.

Excessive drinking may increase the risk for a certain type of gastric cancer, but not with moderate intake of alcohol, results from a meta-analysis have shown.


The types of gastric cancer relating in the study is of tumors involving the noncardia, but differences between the associations with tumors of the gastric cardia were not significant

However, the study shows that there was no increased risk of gastric cancer from alcohol intake among Asians.

Asians have inactive ALDH2 genotype that may be the result of less alcohol intake.
