Increasing poverty in Pakistan is emerging as the major reason for declining school enrolments, as poor families are sending their children to work, claims the Society for Educational Welfare (SEW) Vice President, Dr Tabassum Jaffery.
Jaffery said his association is running 134 schools in the poorest of rural areas in the country, most of them in Sindh and Balochistan.
Families said if their kids attend school, they cannot work and earn a few rupees required for support.
Jaffery urged the government to allocate more funding to the social sector and emphasized on job generation, the Daily Times reports.
