India aims to be the Manufacturing Hub in Renewable Energy: Minister Piyush Goyal
Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal said that the government would like to establish India as the manufacturing hub in renewable energy. Goyal said, "The government was aiming to showcase India's renewable potential to the world and attract investments to the tune of USD 200 billion."
While addressing Re-Invest 2015, Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet and Expo on Sunday, the minister said, "We would like to establish India as the manufacturing hub for renewables, and for research and innovation something which Prime Minister is very passionate about and which is reflected in the Make in India campaign that he has launched, to create manufacturing competitiveness in India and to make India a superpower in terms of its technology and manufacturing capabilities. India now has a historical opportunity to leverage this new paradigm and define its own path of development of the national power system to achieve its energy security goals. Under the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's eminent leadership we have led an unprecedented thrust on renewable energy."
Goyal said, "We would like to repose the investors' confidence once again to invest in the renewable energy sector which will certainly play an important role as we move towards energy security." He also pointed out India's seriousness in combating climate change without any pressure, to leave behind a better future for the coming generations. He added, "We would like to signal to the world our commitment to combat climate change and this is out of the government and Prime Minister's own volition. It is not under any pressure, it is not under any commitments. It is our own commitment to the world, to the people, to leave behind a better future for the future generations of India."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet and Expo, Re-invest 2015 on Sunday. This meet seeks to evolve innovative financial models for funding and aims to promote the partnership between the states and the Center in harnessing renewable energy.
