Indian authorities have been criticized for letting off lightly 12 doctors in the state of Madhya Pradesh who conducted drug trials on children and patients with learning disabilities.

The doctors failed to maintain records of tests and inform the details to the Chief Medical and Health Officer under the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Homes and Clinical Establishments (Registration and License) Act. The doctors were just fined Rupees 5,000 ($94) each. The trials of the drug to treat sexual dysfunction were conducted in the city of Indore.

Maximum penalty for the offense is Rupees 50,000. Activists and opposition parties have criticized the Madhya Pradesh state government for levying such a low fine for a grave and inhuman crime.
