Indian Institute Sets a World Record for Largest Hand Washing Relay with 991 Participants

India's premier B-school, Xavier School of Management (XLRI) in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, has made it to the Guinness World Records for the largest hand washing relay with a whopping 991 participants. The relay was part of 'Banega Swachh India' campaign conducted by the Marketing Association of XLRI (MAXI) with leading hygiene product brand Dettol at the 36th MAXI Fair held at the institute's campus here in January, 2015.

The relay saw participation of over 991 participants including members of XLRI and residents of Jamshedpur. It lasted for nearly four-and-half hours. The institute said, "The Guinness World Records authorities in London accredited this endeavor by students for the most number of participants in a hand washing relay in February after a scrutiny of submitted evidences. The XLRI has beaten a record formerly created in Sri Lanka by 650 participants."

Father E. Abraham, director, XLRI, said, "We congratulate our team MAXI for creating this record. This was a noble initiative entirely conceptualized by our students to spread awareness for Clean India movement."
