Indian Surrogate Mothers' Industry is Booming

by Kathy Jones on April 13, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Thousands of childless foreign couples are looking for a low-cost, legally simple route to parenthood in the Asian sub-continent, making surrogacy a booming industry in India.

For some couples surrogacy is their only chance to having a child. Each year hundreds of Americans go to India for the service.

According to CBS News, though the surrogacy business is booming in India it is however unregulated.

The desperation of many poor surrogate mothers is also making them vulnerable to the industry and openly exploited.

The surrogate mothers are not just desperately poor, but some of them are even illiterate.

They have had no education and so there's a risk that some clinics could abuse them in this very lucrative industry.
