The infant mortality rate across 14 NHS trusts has gone up by twice the earlier existing national average. This has gained acute criticism from across the country and has raised concerns about the safety of maternal care in British hospitals.
Authorities are blaming that shortage of staff, inadequate equipment and poor leadership are responsible for this shocking outcome and in order to ensure the safety of women and babies, maternity care must be provided in fewer and larger institutions, which can provide 24 hours consultant care.
The 14 NHS trusts have not been highlighted. Statistics reveal that over the past 10 years Britain has seen a 19% rise in birth rate as compared to a 12% rise in the number of midwives.
