A British woman who struggled to conceive for over eight years in spite of spending thousands of pounds on in vitro fertilization finally got pregnant following a novel treatment involving the injection of egg yolk.

Nottinghamshire resident, Leanne Blackwell, 38, spent over 15,000 on IVF treatment without any success. She was found to have an immune system that was incompatible with her husband, Andy Blackwell's immune system and kept producing killer cells that attacked fertilized eggs.

The condition was recognized by Dr George Ndukwe, from Care Fertility, who then gave Mrs Blackwell an intralipid fat emulsion containing a mixture of egg extracts and soy oil through a drip which reduced the number of killer cells and allowed the fertilized egg to grow.

Expressing her delight at the procedure that finally allowed her to get pregnant, Mrs Blackwell, who gave birth to a healthy baby boy, told Daily Mail, "It's amazing to think that something quite simple has given us our baby. Holding Martyn in my arms for the first time was amazing and the fact we had waited so long made it all the more powerful."
