Interactive Sessions at JIPMER in South India to Manage Common Health Ailments
�Health Education for All' public awareness campaign initiated at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), South India enables the common man to better manage ailments and clear misconceptions.
The awareness campaign is a series of interactive sessions focusing on building knowledge among the public, patients and caregivers on prevention and treatment of common illnesses. It is expected to improve public awareness on health and diseases.
The first session �Diabetes: How can I manage it myself?' was handled by Dr. Vivekanandan from Department of General Medicine, Dr. Kadambari from Department of Surgery, Dr. Premrajan and Dr. Swaroop from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Parija, Director, JIPMER, said, "In subsequent sessions, we want to cover topics like chest pain- what is the cause and must be done, prostate ailments, cervical cancer, what to do in the case of a snake bite and the need for breast screening."
Dr. Kadambari, who is heading the group said, "We want to expand the initiative with outreach programs in schools and institutions. The first few sessions will look at common ailments."
The sessions were conducted in Tamil and have been planned on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month between 3:30 pm and 5 pm. There is no prior registration or fee for participation, and are open to all.
