Kerala's Supplyco will Not Sell Maggi Noodles: State Food Minister Anoop Jacob
The food safety inspectors in Uttar Pradesh have filed a criminal complaint against Nestle's local arm after finding a high level of lead and monosodium glutamate in some packets of Maggi instant noodles. In the wake of these reports the Kerala State Food Minister Anoop Jacob has decided not to sell Maggi instant noodles at the state-owned Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco).
Ordering an immediate halt to the sales of Maggi noodles, Jacob instructed officials to return the noodles to the supplier. The state-owned Supplyco has 1,424 outlets across Kerala. However, the minister's order was not directed at banning the product in the state.
Officials said, "The state cabinet that meets every Wednesday is expected to take a call on whether a statewide ban on Maggie is needed."
