The American Academy of Pediatrics has said that healthy children and teen athletes can play sports in hot weather provided they have taken some important precautions.

Data from 2001 and 2009 shows that more than 3,000 U.S. children and teens younger than 20 have undergone treatment in emergency rooms for nonfatal heat illness due to sports or exercise.

Data also showed that 29 deaths had occurred among high school football players due to heat stroke.

Children must be well hydrated. They must be given adequate training and rest during the course of the sport, advice pediatricians.
