In what could prove to be a major boon for paraplegics, a Berkeley based company has announced the launch of "eLegs" which promises to help people without the power of their legs to stand up and walk.

Unveiling their product at a press conference in San Francisco, Berkeley Bionics said that the eLegs will provide an excellent alternative to wheelchairs which have been the only mode of support for those who have lost their legs.

While the effectiveness of the eLegs will depend on the condition of the user, the company said that many of its users can walk up to speeds of 2 miles an hour.

The eLegs can be used on the majority of patients between 5'2 and 6'4" of height and who weigh less than 220 lbs.
