An anti-domestic violence law is being considered in China and it is even on the legislative agenda of the National People's Congress (NPC) in 2012.

People.com.cn cited a statement to this effect issued by an official from the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the NPC on Monday.

About 24.7 percent of Chinese women have experienced domestic abuse, according to statistics from the All China Women's Federation (ACWF), chinadaily.com.cn reported.

86 percent of respondents in a survey conducted by the ACWF rights department believe that domestic violence is against the law and a separate anti-violence law is needed for it.

This is the fifth proposal for a comprehensive anti-violence law submitted by the ACWF to the NPC since 2008.
