One of Australia's leading psychologists, Dr Antony Kidman has warned that the increased usage of gadgets such as computers and mobile phones has destroyed the traditional family life and given rise to technology related anxiety.
Dr Kidman, who has authored Staying Sane In The Fast Lane in which he points out the effect of technology on our daily lives, said that the increased usage of technological gadgets has pushed family members into their own "techno-cocoons" and each family member tends to lead a separate life with parents often busy working on their smartphones or laptops while children tend to spend their evenings either playing video games or accessing social networking websites.
He went on to add that it is the parents had the responsibility to make sure that their children are not getting used to the devices early in their lives. "I'm sure some young children are getting some of these devices too early, so that needs to be thought through and, of course, they can get addicted. I would rather parents err on the side of holding off on those devices", he added.
