Losing Sleep With Your IPad?

by Savitha C Muppala on September 6, 2012 at 11:00 PM

This is some valuable information for users of iPad or Samsung Galaxy SII. Researchers at the Lighting Research Centre at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute revealed the risk of sleeplessness which can come to haunt users of the tablet.

Researchers found that two or more hours of exposure to backlit devices can end up suppressing melatonin which can trigger problems with sleep.

"Our study shows that a two-hour exposure to light from self-luminous electronic displays can suppress melatonin by about 22 per cent. Stimulating the human circadian system to this level may affect sleep in those using the devices prior to bedtime," researchers said.

This problem also has an easy solution which is dimming the backlit devices at night to reduce melatonin suppression.
