Maharashtra Govt Approves Nutrition Scheme For Pregnant And Lactating Women In Tribal Areas
To curb malnutrition among tribal children, Maharashtra government has approved a scheme to provide nutrition to pregnant and lactating women in the tribal areas of the state.
The scheme, an initiative of Tribal Development department, named APJ Abdul Kalam Amrut Yojna was approved in a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
‘The meal will be served at the anganwadi centers in 16 districts for pregnant and lactating women for six months.’
The scheme will be implemented by anganwadis that fall under Women and Child Welfare Department in 16 districts having tribal population.
One full hot cooked nutritious meal will be provided for six months, beginning from third trimester of pregnancy continuing for three months post-delivery in tribal areas of the state.
The meal includes pulse, rice, fruits, vegetables and boiled eggs with occasional supply of milk. It would be served at the anganwadi center at flexi-time as per the convenience of the beneficiaries.
Over 1.8 lakh tribal women across Maharashtra will be covered under the scheme every year. The scheme will replace the 'Take Home Ration' scheme that provides packets of sheera or upma to expectant or lactating mothers.
