Man Declared Dead Wakes Up Before Postmortem in Government Hospital, Mumbai
A 45-year-old man declared dead by a doctor, wakes up in the mortuary minutes before his postmortem.
The man admitted to Sion hospital in Mumbai was mistakenly declared dead on October 11 after a doctor checked only his pulse.
Following the incident, the doctor at fault has immediately destroyed all the records to cover up his mistake.
On October 11 around 11 am, police received a call about a person lying unconscious at the bus depot. The man was rushed to Sion hospital, where the chief medical officer Dr Rohan Rohekar declared him dead after checking his pulse and a death intimation report was prepared.
As the body was being taken to the mortuary on a stretcher, the morgue staffers received a shock as they noticed the dead man breathing. "The dead man was breathing. We saw his stomach moving up and down," said Subhash.
The staffers went to inform the casualty ward about the incident and the CMO rushed to the mortuary and tore up the death intimation report.
"Dr Rohekar rushed to the mortuary. He tore up the death intimation report and even erased the entry that he made in the casualty ward diary. The doctors then referred the patient to the ENT department," said a staffer at the hospital.
The identity of the patient is not yet confirmed. He is currently being treated for an ear infection at the ENT department and is considerably weak due to malnourishment, said hospital sources.
