Max Super Specialty Hospital in Delhi Has Doors Open for Afghan Patients and Doctors

Max Super Specialty hospital in Delhi treats Afghan patients on a regular basis for cardiac problems and other health conditions. Although the hospital treats patients from all over the world, the hospital also provides medical training to Afghan doctors.

Mohammad Zahir Wadat had come to Delhi for the treatment of his cardiac problem. He had to come to India for further treatment due to the lack of advanced medical facilities in Afghanistan. "Like everyone knows, Afghanistan does not have a good medical facility, so I came to India from Afghanistan. I am one of the people who come from Afghanistan for my treatment in India. My basic treatment was done in Afghanistan, but I came to India for further treatment" said Mohammad Zahir Wadat, Deputy Governor, Afghanistan.

The hospital also provides medical training and fellowship programs to a professor, who belongs to the medical faculty of Herat University. Dr. Munid first came to the hospital in 2008-2009. He has previously done a fellowship in interventional cardiology with the hospital. He has also learned angiography and angioplasty. Dr. Munid is currently learning electro-physiology pacing and implantation of the devices like pacemaker and ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) and CRT (cardiac resynchronization therapy). He hopes to help the people of Afghanistan by learning latest technology in medical treatment from India.

"As you know we don't have modern facility in Afghanistan and right now we have 3-4 hospitals in Kabul and 1-3 hospitals in other provinces. People are in need of such services in Afghanistan. Since many of them are heart patients and also have other ailments and most people in Afghanistan do not have ability to undergo expenses to go abroad for treatment, I can help them," said Dr. Munid, Professor, Medical Faculty, Herat University.
