Medical Device Maker Medtronic Acquires Dutch Diabetes Research Center
Medical device manufacturer Medtronic has acquired Diabeter, a Dutch diabetes research center and clinic, as part of its business expansion.
The diabetes research firm manages more than 1,500 type 1 diabetes patients and employs 36 workers at four locations. It uses technology called the Diabeter Dashboard, which physicians use to remotely support patients who are managing their diabetes.
Diabeter will become part of Medtronic Diabetes services and solutions unit. However, the research firm will retain autonomy when it comes to brand choice,' as well as clinical decision making.'
Hooman Hakami, executive vice president and president of Medtronic's diabetes business said that, "The acquisition marks Medtronic's first entry into a diabetes integrated care model approach and signifies that Medtronic Diabetes is more than pumps and sensors - we are a holistic diabetes management company focused on making a real difference in outcomes and cost."
Medtronic is based in Dublin, but its corporate offices are in Fridley. It's Minnesota's seventh-largest publicly traded company, according to Business Journal research.
