Mental diseases are on rise in Pakistan due to worsening poverty, price hike and lawlessness, medical experts have warned. They have also called on the government to take appropriate measures to ameliorate the situation.

They warned the situation might further deteriorate if the government does not take appropriate measures, The Nation reports.

The head of department of psychology at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Professor Iqbal Afridi, said that the recent terror attacks on law enforcement agencies have spread a panic among the people and that growing poverty and inflation has baldly affected the mental health of people.

Dr. Hameera Afzal of Liaqat National Hospital said that the present tense situation has adversely affected the mental health of schoolchildren who feel insecure, while going to schools.
