Milky Way Galaxy Could be Huge Wormhole and Galactic Transport System

by Dr. Trupti Shirole on January 25, 2015 at 6:05 PM

Milky Way galaxy could be huge wormhole and galactic transport system in theory, according to a collaboration study by Indian, Italian and North American researchers.

Paolo Salucci, astrophysicist of the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste said, "If the map of the dark matter in the Milky Way was combined with the most recent Big Bang model to explain the universe and the hypothesis of the existence of space-time tunnels, would suggest Milky Way galaxy could really contain one of these tunnels, and that the tunnel could even be the size of the galaxy itself."

To reach their conclusions the researchers combined the equations of general relativity with an extremely detailed map of the distribution of dark matter in the Milky Way.

Salucci said, "Scientists have long tried to explain dark matter by hypothesizing the existence of a particular particle, the neutralino, which, however, has never been identified at CERN or observed in the universe. However, alternative theories also exist that don't rely on the particle, and perhaps it's time for scientists to take this issue seriously and Dark matter might be another dimension, perhaps even a major galactic transport system."

The study has been published in Annals of Physics.
