According to a poll more number of Americans have a favorable view of the nation's largest gun lobby, National Rifle Association, than unfavorable.

According to Gallup poll, 54 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of the group, while 38 percent said they have an unfavorable opinion.

Gallup said the poll, covering 1,038 adults, came the same time Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president, publicly advocated for placing guards with guns at every school as a response to the Newtown, Politico reports.

LaPierre first announced that proposal at a press conference on December 21.

According to the report, the polling organization noted that the NRA's positions on guns and gun control legislation have received significant attention from media and politicians during the last week.
