Nearly 2.25 Lakh Children Will be Vaccinated for Japanese Encephalitis in Bhubaneswar

Health and family welfare department in collaboration with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be launching a Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination campaign in the city from November 27, 2017, and will be continued for three weeks.


About 2, 24, 264 children in the city aging from 1 to 15 years will be vaccinated during this campaign.

‘About 2, 24, 264 children in the city of Bhubaneswar aging from 1 to 15 years will be vaccinated during the Japanese Encephalitis vaccination campaign.’

Students of all government, private, Sishu Mandir, Madrasa, play schools, orphanages and other institutions will be vaccinated during this campaign.

The campaign will be carried out by the Anganwadi, ASHA, ANMs and health workers and social organizations including NGOs and Lions Club will also be supporting the campaign.

JE, a deadly disease caused by the JE virus kills hundreds of people every year in the country, and this program was initiated by the Centre to fight JE.

The symptoms of JE include a headache, vomiting, fever, and seizures and would be seen only after 5 to 15 days of the infection.

JE virus usually spreads by mosquitoes, especially of the Culex type and pigs and wild birds may serve as vectors for the infection.A coordination meeting was organized at the BMC office to plan for the programme.

The members present at the meeting were City mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, additional district magistrate (Bhubaneswar) Manoj Mohanty and ADMO (public health) R K Jena.
