New Study Finds That Conservatives Have More Self Control Than Liberals
In the United States, conservatives have more self control than liberals, says a new study.
The study reveals that there is a "critical difference" between political leaning and self control.
The study comprised of 300 participants for three separate series. The authors found that people who are identified as conservative had better self control compared to those who were identified as liberals - regardless of race or gender.
"Conservatives tend to believe they had a greater control over their outcomes, and that was predicting how they did on the test," Joshua Clarkson, the lead author of the paper, said.
To test self-control, participants were asked to look at a list of color words that were written on colored backgrounds. For instance, the word blue was written on a green background. The participants were asked to read the word and ignore the background completely.
"If you see the word red' in blue type your mind wants to say blue' right away, but you have to suppress that. That's why it is a strong indicator of self regulation," Clarkson said.
Both conservatives and liberals were able to read the words, but conservatives were able to red it faster said Clarkson.
