Newly-Developed Disc Could Prove to be Effective Replacement for Damaged Spine Disc
Researchers at Brigham Young University have developed a new disc which mimics the flexibility of the spine and could prove to be an effective replacement for a damaged spine disc.
The researchers said that the disc comes with a rolling action that allows the spine to move in whatever direction it wants and could be an effective substitute to the currently used fusion treatment which involves welding together the bones on either side of the damaged disc.
The disc can be inserted in between the vertebra and disc and the rolling movement allows it to move forwards, backwards or on either side.
The researchers revealed that they are currently conducting clinical trials to test the effectiveness of the device and added that they hoped to bring it to the market by 2015.
