NHRC Issues Notice for Death of 8-Year-Old Due to Medical Negligence at AIIMS, Delhi

8-year-old died due to medical negligence at a hospital in Delhi. Neha, who was injured in a road accident was not given any medical assistance immediately, instead she was only neglected at a hospital in Delhi. By taking suo motu cognizance of a media report that a man ran from one hospital to another here in the national capital to save the life of his eight year old niece, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)has issued notices over the incident.


Issuing notices to the Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Director AIIMS and Delhi Police Commissioner, the Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child. They have been given two weeks to respond.

Reportedly, the girl was run over by a truck in South Delhi's Rangpuri area at about 2.00PM. She was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital and from there sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS and from there to AIIMS Trauma Center but was denied admission even as they were accompanied by a policeman. They again called police control room for their intervention. Police arrived and had a word with the doctors at AIIMS and subsequently, she was declared dead at 6.30PM. Her uncle, Pradeep, allegedly, said that she was dying but nobody even bothered to check her. The family members work as laborers and have no regular income.
