You Can Now Safely and Conveniently Clean Your Contact Lenses With Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide solution is widely used to disinfect contact lens by daily users. Even though it may be the optimal way of ensuring clean lenses, many people use other solutions that come with less risk and more convenience.
NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, a company out of Emeryville, California, has received FDA clearance for a small device that makes using hydrogen peroxide contact cleaning solutions safe and convenient. The new electronic device known as intelli-Case monitors the neutralization of hydrogen peroxide as it cleans the contact lenses.
Using the lenses before the neutralization process is complete may cause damage to the cornea. The new device will let you know that the lenses are not safe to use On the other hand, if the neutralization rate is too slow.
Then you will have to get a fresh solution. The device will also blink the unsafe' light, if you make the mistake of using standard hydrogen peroxide as sold at the pharmacy instead of the properly formulated stuff used for contact lenses.
There's also a sensor that makes sure you poured enough solution into the bottle and that you're not just topping off, and if you open the container before the six hour disinfection process is complete, it will warn that using the lenses is not safe.
