Novel IV Catheter Insertion System
There is good lot of training and experience which is needed while inserting IV catheters, especially when working with the elderly and young children.
In this area, errors happen quite often which necessitates a repeat of the procedure, causing great discomfort to the patient.
A new device has been developed by a team of engineers and clinicians from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Hadassah Medical Center in Israel. This device helps make IV catheter insertion an automatic, safe and a reliable procedure.
The SAGIV device is designed to use infrared light to spot the veins and to guide the needle. Electronic sensors help in making an error-free insertion of the needle as it enters the vessel.
It is hoped that this device will reduce the errors while inserting IV catheters.
