A new report published in the journal, Pediatrics, suggests that those babies who start eating solid foods even before they are four months of age are at a greater risk of becoming obese.

Researchers from the Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard University found that even though the American Academy of Pediatrics and World Health Organization recommends that babies should not be given solid foods until they are six months of age, more than 26 percent of the parents disregard the recommendation.

The researchers claimed that giving the babies solid foods before the recommended age increased the risk of them becoming obese by as much as six times.

Nearly 850 children were analyzed by the researchers who found that over 9 percent of them were obese by the time they turned three.
