Olympus Unveils New Device For Lithotripsy With Shock-Pulse Dual-action System

by Julia Samuel on June 16, 2015 at 4:28 PM

Olympus released the new generation Cyberwand lithotripter, the first device to deliver "ultrasonic and high frequency bursts of mechanical wave energies," which happens at the same time while suction is activated.

The ShockPulse-SE, a dual-action system is used for breaking up kidney, urethral, and bladder stones. Olympus believes that the technology allows for larger stones to be broken up faster and easier, while clearing out fragments more efficiently.

The wand has controls at the tip instead of relying on the commonly used foot switches to activate it and there's practically zero time spent on setting up the system since one socket is used for all the different available probes.

"This is an exciting time to be a medical device company in the Urology space," said Richard Reynolds, Executive Vice President - Sales, Marketing & Shared Services of the Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of the Americas.

"New advancements in imaging, stone management and the use of proprietary tumor detection technology, combined with our commitment to valuable partnerships and innovations in pricing structures, are helping physicians meet the triple aim of healthcare reform by improving quality, reducing costs and enhancing patient satisfaction."
