The Indian Health Ministry has finally made changes to the organ donation act that will help simplify the rules for both the donor and the doctors and also allow grandparents to donate their organs.

Up till now, organ can be donated to only if the receiver is a father, mother, son, daughter, wife, husband, sister and brother, near and distant relatives or if someone agrees to donate out of love and affection.

However there have been many cases of abuse of the last part of the act and the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the new laws will be more simplified.

Azad went on to say that transportation facility will also be provided to transport legally acquired organs while those who indulge in illegal harvesting of organs now face a jail term.
