The number of organ donors in Scotland has risen by more than a fifth in just four and a half years, reveals new data presented in the UK parliament.

It means that more than four in ten Scots have declared willing to donate. Across the UK, the number of people on the register increased to 21.9 million from 17.8 million in 2011.
People can now join the NHS Organ Donor Register online and the procedure takes no more than two minutes.
The government also made the registration easy for the people as they can join the initiative when applying for a driving licence or even for a Boots Advantage card. The register is entirely confidential.
In the event of the death of an organ donor, his/her family or friends will be asked to confirm that they did not change their mind before any organs are taken.
