Persuasive Speech

US researchers have now found the most convincing way to speak is to take frequent pauses, speak at a moderate pace and avoid too many gesticulations.

Researchers analyzed 1,400 calls which were intended to persuade people to participate in phone surveys.

The study found that those who spoke very fast and did not take frequent pauses were not as successful in convincing listeners.

"It's not about what you say, but how you say it", said a UK language expert.
